Cannes Film Festival Postponed Due to Coronavirus Outbreak
Cannes Film Festival organizers have announced today that this year's edition has been postponed in an effort to control the spread of COVID-19. The France-based festival is being put on hold following President Emmanuel Macron's decision to put the country in full lockdown for the next two weeks.

The festival was scheduled to take place from May 12 to 23.

"Several hypotheses are being studied to preserve the festival, the main one of which would be a simple postponement," organizers said in a statement. "Until then, the Cannes Film Festival joins its voice with all those who ask that each and every one respects general confinement and shows solidarity in these difficult times for the whole world."

So far, the festival has not been rescheduled, although organizers are considering dates in June.

This year's postponement marks the festival's first interruption since 1968.
