Published Sep 21, 2017Following rumours that Leftovers creator Damon Lindelof would be helming a TV adaptation of beloved DC Comics series Watchmen, HBO has confirmed plans to move ahead with the project.
The network has officially ordered a pilot for the series, in addition to commissioning additional scripts for Lindelof's television adaptation of Alan Moore's graphic novel series. Also serving as a co-creator of Lost, Lindelof revealed on Instagram that the writers room for the series had officially been opened.
HBO had previously had talks about a Watchmen television series in 2015 with Zack Snyder, who directed the graphic novel's film adaptation in 2009. However, Snyder is no longer involved with the project.
"It's the most married-to-the-original-text version of Watchmen that could've been made," Lindelof said of Snyder's film in 2009. "I want to keep it sort of insular...It's okay with me if people don't understand it because they don't deserve to understand it."
HBO's The Leftovers recently completed its third and final season this past June.
