Published Dec 27, 2019With its hubris, lack of self-awareness and general stupidity, Tom Hooper's hilariously terrible Cats just might be the film that sadly defines life in 2019. One place we certainly won't find it, however, is at the Academy Awards.
The final nail in the coffin for this absurd work is the fact that Universal Pictures has opted to cut it from its "For Your Consideration" page.
The "For Your Consideration" page lists the studio's qualifying movies, along with a guide to their individual categories and a schedule of upcoming screenings in various cities.
The company currently lists Us, 1917, Queen & Slim, How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World, Abominable and The Secret Life of Pets 2 on the page, leaving Cats out in the alley.
Further, a source told Variety that Cats has also been excluded from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences' streaming platform, meaning those voting on the awards can't screen the film.
In its opening week, Cats earned $15.3 million USD against its $100 million budget. As you can tell by our review, the movie sucks.
