Published Nov 21, 2011With December just around the corner, musicians are starting to roll out that Christmas cheer, but Super Furry Animals leader Gruff Rhys isn't one of them. The songwriter has just unveiled a seasonally themed solo effort, the Atheist Xmas EP, and, well, it seems as if dude isn't really primed for a jolly holiday season.
Judging by the artwork above, the seasonal release, which Rhys self-releases on December 19, is ready to combat the heart-warming carols you're used to with something a little more seething and self-loathing. The three sad bastard-approved tracks featured are "Post Apocalypse Christmas," "At the End of the Line" and "Slashed Wrists This Christmas."
You can listen to "Slashed Wrists This Christmas," a downtrodden boogie woogie chronicling clinical depression diagnoses and post-suicide attempt hospital stops, below. It was originally recorded for the UK flick Long Distance Information.
You can order the Atheist Xmas EP as a limited edition twelve-inch or digitally here.
