Published Jan 13, 2020After teasing something late last week using an augmented reality scavenger hunt, Pearl Jam have confirmed plans for their first new album in six years. Gigaton arrives March 27 via Monkeywrench/Republic. What's more the band have announced a world tour that will be coming to Canada.
The album marks the 11th full-length from Pearl Jam and follows their 2013 effort Lighting Bolt.
"Making this record was a long journey," said the band's Mike McCready in a statement. "It was emotionally dark and confusing at times, but also an exciting and experimental road map to musical redemption. Collaborating with my bandmates on Gigaton ultimately gave me greater love, awareness and knowledge of the need for human connection in these times."
Up above, that's the cover art for Gigaton — a photo by Canadian photographer, filmmaker, and marine biologist Paul Nicklen called "Ice Waterfall." As we discovered last week — from the band's augmented reality excursion — this glacial body called the Nordaustlandet ice cap in Svalbard, Norway, gushes what some might consider "gigatons" of meltwater in a waterfall-like formation.
The band have also confirmed plans for a North American/European tour beginning in Toronto on March 18, just over a week before the record's release. They'll also make stops in Ottawa, Quebec City and Hamilton before heading south of the border. The tour will wrap up mid-summer in Amsterdam where the band will be joined by supporting act White Reaper.
So far, Pearl Jam haven't released a single from the forthcoming record, but the album track "Dance of the Clairvoyant" will arrive in the coming weeks.
Following various pre-sales, general ticket for the tour go on sale on January 24 at 10 a.m. local time. Find the full schedule down below, where you'll also find the band's announcement.
