Diana Rigg of 'Game of Thrones' and James Bond Has Died

Published Sep 10, 2020Diana Rigg has passed away. The iconic British actor, known for her roles in Game of Thrones and as a Bond girl, was 82.
In a statement, her agent confirmed that Rigg died today (September 10): "She died peacefully early this morning. She was at home with her family who have asked for privacy at this difficult time."
Rigg's daughter, Rachael Stirling, revealed that her mother had been diagnosed with cancer in March and "spent her last months joyfully reflecting on her extraordinary life, full of love, laughter and a deep pride in her profession."
Contemporary audiences most likely know Rigg as Olenna Tyrell in Game of Thones. Early in her career, she was in the UK TV series The Avengers in the mid-to-late '60s, and she played James Bond's wife, Countess Teresa di Vicenzo, in 1969's On Her Majesty's Secret Service. She won a Tony Award for her stage work in Madea in 1994 — the same year that she became Dame Diana Rigg.
Rigg's final film role is in Edgar Wright's upcoming horror movie Last Night in Soho, due out next year.
