Damien Jurado Sees 'Visions of Us on the Land' with New LP
Published Dec 15, 2015Prolific Seattle singer-songwriter Damien Jurado has just announced plans to release his 13th solo album.
Called Visions of Us on the Land, the release completes a loose trilogy that also included 2012's Maraqopa and 2014's Brothers and Sisters of the Eternal Son.
In a press release, Jurado explains that the trilogy of albums was somewhat unintentional. "Maraqopa is this peaceful place I can go to in my mind," he said. "A little bit psychedelic, but you're not using substances. The brain is such a powerful thing. In that uncharted territory I was able to tap in and find this place. Which was called Maraqopa. Similar to the fictional towns in television or books."
On Visions of Us on the Land, the characters introduced in the previous records finally leave a commune on which they've been living.
It's all pretty heady, but fortunately the songs themselves stand on their own. "Exit 353," available to stream below, is a classic-sounding Jurado song with a psych twist. The album's "On the Land Blues" was also previously released on the Tumbledown film soundtrack.
Visions of Us on the Land will arrive on March 18 via Secretly Canadian.
